Conference Presentations

This series of presentations highlights significant advancements in enzyme research, particularly focused on thermostable and thermophilic xylanases. Kurt Halil and colleagues (2024) explored the thermostable xylanases derived from the Anatolian water buffalo rumen, using computational methods. In 2022, Yusuf Sürmeli and Mohamed Gülşah designed GH11 xylanases for industrial purposes through enzyme engineering, while Sürmeli presented on the biotechnological applications of thermophilic xylanases from Geobacillus species. Additionally, Albayrak, Velioğlu, and Sürmeli (2022) characterized thermophilic β-xylosidases from Geobacillus, emphasizing their industrial potential. These studies contribute to innovative enzyme applications in various industries. 🧬🦠🌱✨

Research Focus

Y. Sürmeli’s research focuses on enzyme engineering and characterization, particularly thermostable enzymes from thermophilic microorganisms like Geobacillus species. Their work emphasizes the discovery and optimization of industrially relevant enzymes, such as α-amylases, xylanases, and serine proteases, which possess high thermal and alkaline stability. Sürmeli’s studies involve biochemical characterization, evolutionary engineering, and the potential applications of these enzymes in food processing and biotechnology. Additionally, research includes exploring the physiological aspects of Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains to enhance resistance to stressors. This multidisciplinary approach supports advancements in biotechnology and environmental sustainability. 🔬🌡️🧪💧
