Dr. Carolina Oliveira Matos is currently Senior Lecturer in Media and Sociology at City, University of London (2013–present), where she also served as Programme Director for the MAs in Media and Communications and International Communications and Development (2018–2022) and is presently Director of Research for the Department of Media, Culture and Creative Industries. In 2023, she was a Visiting Associate Professor at the University of Miami, USA, delivering courses, workshops, and national talks on Global Communications. She has also been a Visiting Researcher at IESP-UERJ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2019, 2022), where she led research linked to her GCRF project and delivered training for NGO practitioners. Earlier roles include Part-Time Lecturer in Media and International Relations at the University of Essex (2012–2013), Independent Scholar and Freelance Journalist (2010–2012), during which she authored Media and Politics in Latin America (I.B. Tauris, 2012), awarded the Premio Jabuti (2014); Visiting Researcher and Fellow at the London School of Economics (2008–2010); Visiting Tutor at St. Mary’s University College, Twickenham (2007–2008); and Visiting Lecturer at the University of East London (2005–2008). She completed her PhD in Media and Communications at Goldsmiths, University of London (2007), following her MA in Film and Television Studies at Warwick and two BAs in English Literature (UERJ) and Journalism (Estácio de Sá University, Brazil).
